THEATRE PRESENTATIONS

August 2010 Presentations

Thornton Wilder’s Acclaimed Drama

OUR TOWN

Time: 7:30 pm

It is said that at any moment Our Town is being performed somewhere in the world.

This August it will be Yarmouth’s turn to bring this remarkable play to Th’YARC stage.

Our Town is the acclaimed play written in 1937 by Thornton Wilder who is also known for the

plays The Skin of Our Teeth and The Matchmaker (which became the musical Hello Dolly).

It is currently being performed on Broadway at The Barrow Street Theatre.

In past Broadway productions the lead has been played by Paul Newman, Henry Fonda,

Hal Holbrook and Spalding Gray. A televised musical version starring Frank Sinatra

is responsible for the song Love and Marriage featured in the recent YARC hit Run for your Wife.

This Three Act play (there will be two intermissions) takes place in the small town of

Grover’s Corners New Hampshire in 1901, 1904 and 1913. You are guaranteed to leave

the theatre with a renewed appreciation of the significance of the small unnoticed moments in our lives.

Our Town was previously performed at Th’YARC in 1981 under the direction of Ruth Rideout.
